In the unconventional oil and gas drilling operations, the use of millions of gallons of water, sand and other chemicals, creates a severe problem with the residual waste water generated by such process.
In 2010, the United States Congress requested the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to study hydraulic fracturing in the United States. The objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of hydraulic fracturing on the water supply, specifically the water for human consumption.
The research intends to evaluate the pathway of all the water used in the hydraulic fracturing process. EPA is trying to determinate how the large volume water withdrawals from ground and surface water would impact drinking water resources, what are the possible impacts of releases of flowback and produced water on drinking water resources, and what are the possible impacts of inadequate treatment of hydraulic fracturing wastewaters on drinking water resources.
The main five hydraulic fracturing locations chosen for this research are the Bakken Shale in North Dakota, Barnett Shale in Texas, Raton Basin in Colorado, and two Marcellus Shale locations in Pennsylvania.
The main concern is the toxicity of chemicals used in the hydraulic fracturing fluids. After the fracking job, water must be recovered, treated and recycled or disposed of, in accordance to federal and state regulations.
Our aloe based products are a simple and eco friendly solution for the treatment of frac flowback and produced water. But the COAGREEN™ is the appropriate solution for the waste water recovery after hydraulic fracturing jobs, because it has excellent coagulation effects and it is a green solution, not an hazardous chemical.
The polysaccharides of aloe and chitosan passed different test methods that demonstrate their coagulant function.
In different investigations, the results indicate that both aloe and chitosan have excellent coagulation effects, achieving an effective adsorption of the main heavy metals, including cadmium, copper, chromium, mercury, lead and arsenic. See our blogs for details.
In conclusion, the biological treatment seems to be the most reliable method for the disposal of pollutants in many industries. Therefore, the aloe option is a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to treat the millions of gallons of waster water generated by the hydraulic fracturing job.

Application
COAGREEN™ is a coagulant to be used into the fluids for hydraulic fracturing operations in the oil and gas industry, with the objective to treat waste water.

Dosage
In coagulation operations, COAGREEN™ used in conjunction with aluminum sulfate, a dosage of 14mg / l is suggested. But this dose is variable depending on the existing heavy metals. For a correct dosage, it is suggested to review the water analysis.
The product can be used in wastewater treatment, dirty water, process water or for purification of water. In coagulation operations, COAGREEN™ can be used in conjunction with aluminum sulfate, ferric sulfate, ferric chloride or magnesium sulfate. In each case, different dosage levels are used. In hydraulic fracturing operations, COAGREEN™ can be used in conjunction with other environment friendly aloe based products manufactured by Aloetrade America LLC.
